The Space and Missile Defense Working Group (SMDWG) provides technical leadership, support, and education for the defense of our deployed forces and our nation from ballistic and cruise missiles.
Purpose
Support collective and informed advocacy on Space and Missile Defense programs
Assist in the decision making process with respect to Space and Missile Defense
Educate the general population and elected representation on Space and Missile Defense
Encourage and facilitate the exchange of information between industry and government with particular reference to Space and Missile Defense
Membership is open to all members of industry, government, and the local community who are concerned with space and missile defense issues and are members of NDIA or Affiliate.
The Working Group meets once a month, usually on the 3d Thursday. Videos and charts from past meetings can be viewed here.
Our speaker for the Tue 29 Apr SMDWG Special Session will be COL Tony Behrens, the Executive Director, Guam Defense System, RCCTO. COL Behrens will be speaking on the Guam Defense System and its relationship to the Golden Dome for America. Location will be Torch Freedom Center at 4090 Memorial Pkwy SW, Huntsville, AL 35802. The March meeting of the SMDWG was held Wednesday (not our regular Thursday) 19 March, at the SAIC Conference Center located at 6723 Odyssey Drive. Guest Speaker: COL Jeff Porter, Chief of the Army SMDC Commanding General’s Action Group (CAG) speaking on Integrated Air & Missile Defense, including the concept of the “Golden Dome”. The February meeting of the SMDWG was held Thursday, 20 February, hosted by Alutiiq, Mr. Jim Howe, renowned local Strategic Nuclear Forces Expert, presenting a Nuclear Threat Briefing at an Open Source – Unclassified level covering both the Russian AND Chinese threats. His slides have been uploaded to link.
On Thursday, 16 January, the SMDWG hosted a tour of the Museum of Information Explosion, also known as the Signals Museum. The museum, which is planned for opening in March 2025, was established to "educate and inspire visitors and the world about the history of communication technology and the scientists, engineers and business leaders who made our modern world possible." The slides are available here and we also have a volunteer handout and a brochure on why your help is needed.
